This report is an interim product for a multi-year research project being conducted cooperatively by the NC Geological Survey, US Geological Survey, and the Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at NC State University. A primary objective of the program is to complete a preliminary heavy-mineral resource assessment of the inner continental shelf area surrounding the Cape Fear Cuspate Foreland. This resource assessment program is relying chiefly on three types of existing data - shallow-penetrating vibracores, high-resolution seismic reflection profiles, and archived borehole samples with geophysical and lithologic logs.
