Geologic maps show the distribution and orientation of rocks and other geologic materials at the earth's surface. They are the principal source of geologic information for land-use planning; assessing mineral, energy, and water resources; assessing geologic hazards; siting critical facilities; conducting environmental studies; and basic earth-science research. Geologic maps are available at a variety of scales, depending on location. Please contact our office (919-733-2423) for site-specific map availability.
NOTICE: The USGS will be implementing a new price structure for topographic and geologic maps, effective March 1, 2009. As a result, we will have to increase the price of topographic maps by the same amount. On March 1, 2009, the new price for 1:24,000 scale topographic maps will increase from $6 to $8 per map, and the new price for 1:100,000, 1:250,000 and 1:500,000 scale topographic maps will increase from $7 to $9 per map. Most geologic maps will now be $9.
