A topographic map represents the shape of the Earth's surface through contour lines.
Contours are lines of equal elevation that make it possible to measure the height of
mountains and steepness of slopes. Topographic maps also include symbols that represent
features such as streets, buildings, streams, lakes, and vegetated areas. We carry full state-wide
coverage of North Carolina topographic maps in three scales: 1:24,000 (detailed), 1:100,000
(local area), and 1:250,000 (regional). Contact our Sales Office for your area of interest. Our
topographic map index can be found at www.geology.enr.state.nc.us/maps/ncgs_main_maps_page.html#Topographic maps.
NOTICE: The USGS will be implementing a new price structure for topographic maps, effective March 1, 2009. As a result, we will have to increase the price of topographic maps by the same amount. On March 1, 2009, the new price for 1:24,000 scale topographic maps will increase from $6 to $8 per map, and the new price for 1:100,000, 1:250,000 and 1:500,000 scale topographic maps will increase from $7 to $9 per map.
